Authentic Edo period original, c.1800, Japanese erotic art shunga woodblock print picture by a member of the Kitagawa School. 
 
Shunga picture measures approximately 10.3 cm x 16 cm.  Very good colors and impressions.  Condition is good for its age with some wear, soiling, and wormage mainly on the white border to the left of the artwork.  No backing.  Please see and judge from photos provided.
 
Japanese original shunga woodblock print picture presenting two remarkably unusual comparative studies of the erect male phallus, apparently illustrating lesser examples in contrast to the more “ideal” specimens depicted on the accompanying Kitagawa School sheet. 
 
Of particular interest is the direct artistic connection between these c.1800 Kitagawa School anatomical studies and the later shunga of Keisai Eisen.  Eisen copied this distinctive manner of presenting enlarged and isolated genitalia and carried the style into his own anatomical erotic works of the 1820–1845 period.  An exceptionally unusual piece illustrating both the playful classification of male sexuality in Edo-period shunga and an important influence upon Eisen's later erotic art.
