1830 - Shunga Surimono - Abandon
Authentic Edo period original, c.1830, Japanese erotic art shunga surimono (privately commissioned, high-quality print) woodblock print picture by an artist of the UTAGAWA School.
Shunga picture measures 9 cm x 13 cm. Very good colors and impressions. Nice embossing, as well as some deluxe printing techniques such as mica (metallic pigments) and gauffrage (a milder and more subtle type of embossing).
Very good condition with some light wear and soiling. No backing, aside from minimal strips along the sides of the picture. Please see and judge from photos.
An intensely passionate Edo-period shunga scene depicting a Japanese beauty and her lover completely entwined in their embrace. Her head thrown back and legs wrapped tightly around him convey a sense of total abandon, while their loosened robes and the scattered papers beside them heighten the wonderfully spontaneous, uninhibited quality of the encounter.
