1830 - Shunga Surimono - Hidden Intimacy
Authentic Edo period original, c.1830, Japanese erotic art shunga surimono (privately commissioned, high-quality print) woodblock print picture by an artist of the UTAGAWA School.
Shunga picture measures 9 cm x 13 cm. Very good colors and impressions. Nice embossing, as well as some deluxe printing techniques such as mica (metallic pigments) and gauffrage (a milder and more subtle type of embossing).
Very good condition with some light wear, soiling. No backing, aside from minimal strips along the sides of the picture. Please see and judge from photos.
A charming and discreet Edo-period shunga scene depicting two lovers nestled closely together beneath their voluminous robes. The erotic encounter is largely concealed from view, giving the composition a playful intimacy, while the woman’s elegant coiffure and beautiful pale-blue patterned kimono provide a particularly refined decorative element.
