1830 - Shunga Surimono - Moist Fingers
Authentic Edo period original, c.1830, Japanese erotic art shunga surimono (privately commissioned, high-quality print) woodblock print picture by an artist of the UTAGAWA School.
Shunga picture measures 9 cm x 13 cm. Very good colors and impressions. Nice embossing, as well as some deluxe printing techniques such as mica (metallic pigments) and gauffrage (a milder and more subtle type of embossing).
Good condition with some light wear and soiling, wormage to the left of the picture. No backing, aside from minimal strips along the sides of the picture. Please see and judge from photos.
An intimate Edo-period shunga scene featuring a beautifully dressed Japanese woman reclining with her lover, who moistens his fingers in preparation for their encounter. Her richly patterned robes, elaborate coiffure and relaxed pose lend the composition a sensual elegance, while the small preparatory gesture gives the scene an unusually candid and playful quality.
