1830 - Shunga Surimono - Pregnant Woman
Authentic Edo period original, c.1830, Japanese erotic art shunga surimono (privately commissioned, high-quality print) woodblock print picture by an artist of the UTAGAWA School.
Shunga picture measures 9 cm x 13 cm. Very good colors and impressions. Nice embossing, as well as some deluxe printing techniques such as mica (metallic pigments) and gauffrage (a milder and more subtle type of embossing).
Very good condition with some light wear and soiling. No backing, aside from minimal strips along the sides of the picture. Please see and judge from photos.
A striking Edo-period shunga scene depicting a visibly pregnant Japanese beauty intimately entwined with her lover. Her prominently rounded belly forms the visual center of the composition, while her elaborate coiffure, patterned robes and the richly decorated bedding add refinement and color to this unusual portrayal of intimacy during pregnancy.
