Authentic Edo period original, c.1830, Japanese erotic art shunga surimono (privately commissioned, high-quality print) woodblock print picture by an artist of the UTAGAWA School.
Shunga picture measures 9 cm x 13 cm. Very good colors and impressions. Nice embossing, as well as some deluxe printing techniques such as mica (metallic pigments) and gauffrage (a milder and more subtle type of embossing).
Very good condition with some light wear and soiling, faint vertical crease to the right of it. No backing, aside from a minimal strip along one side of the picture. Please see and judge from photos.
A rare homoerotic (nanshoku) shunga from c.1830 Japan. In this intimate scene, two men engage in anal intercourse, with the younger partner on top taking the receptive role while styled in a feminized fashion evocative of Edo-period onnagata (male actors specializing in female roles). The older lover reaches upward to grasp his partner's phallus, adding an additional layer of erotic interaction to the composition.
