A serene and poetic prelude to the passion within, this exquisite monochrome illustration of sakura blossoms beneath a full moon serves as the traditional non-sexual introduction to a shunga book.  The delicate rendering of the cherry blossoms, their petals softly illuminated in the moonlight, symbolizes the fleeting beauty of love and desire - setting a tranquil, yet evocative tone for the unfolding intimate scenes within.  A masterful contrast between stillness and sensuality, this piece reflects the refined aesthetics of Meiji-era Japanese erotic art.
