This boldly sensual work comes from contemporary artist Senju’s acclaimed series, 36 Views of Mount Fuji – Shunga Reimagined, a provocative homage to Hokusai’s iconic landscape series.  Created nearly 200 years after the original Fugaku Sanjūrokkei, Senju’s version dares to blend traditional aesthetics with highly erotic, modern shunga themes — reviving Edo-era pleasure art through a fresh, visceral lens. 
Inspired by Japan’s long period of isolation (Sakoku), when culture blossomed within closed borders, Senju draws upon the spirit of ukiyo-e — the "floating world" of beauty, sensuality, and impermanence.  Just as Hokusai's Mt. Fuji served as a constant amidst fleeting moments, Senju uses erotic intimacy as a metaphor for timeless human connection and artistic continuity.
 
This Senju reimagining of Kanagawa oki nami-ura (Great Wave off Kanagawa) pushes Hokusai’s icon into unmistakably erotic territory.  The great wave still rises with its familiar force, but the scene is transformed: floating harigata (Japanese dildos) drift across the sea, and above them an open-legged vulva radiates like a blazing sun.
Look closely, though — the subversive detail many miss at first glance (ourselves included): Mount Fuji itself doubles as a phallic form, penetrating her anally, turning the landscape into an erotic toy.  It’s a clever, provocative twist that blends shock and sensuality, elevating this piece into one of the more daring works of the series.

Each print in this newly limited edition of 50 (per size) also shows enhanced depth of color, sharper linework, and greater contrast.  It is signed and numbered by the artist, carrying his hand-carved red hanko seal at bottom right — a personal emblem of authenticity.  Printed on 230gsm archival matte paper, this piece stands as both homage and innovation within Japan’s shunga legacy.
